Anime is popularly known for its amazing characters and their realistic, yet fun personalities. Talking about characters, the ones who shine the brightest are obviously the main protagonists in most anime. However, there are times where the side characters are as interesting or even more interesting than the main character.
In this article, we’ll be taking a look at such top 10 anime side characters who deserve their own anime series.

Gojo Satoru (Jujutsu Kaisen)
Gojo Satoru is a popular side character. And rightly so. He is one of the strongest anime characters of all time. In the manga, he fought toe-to-toe with the fully recovered Sukuna, the king of sorcery. His special abilities are hollow purple, which can obliterate anything, and infinity, which slows down his enemies. He also has many other jutsu that give him an edge in a fight. He can heal himself by reversing cursed energy, for example. But what makes him even more amazing is his laid back personality. You just can’t hate a character like him.
Itachi Uchiha (Naruto)
Itachi Uchiha is the Leaf Village’s sworn enemy… At least, that’s what he is introduced as. He’s responsible for killing all but one Uchiha. And that lucky guy is his brother, Sasuke.
Itachi is Sasuke Uchiha’s “evil” older brother and played a vital role in the Naruto franchise. After the genocide, he joined a rogue shinobi, Akatsuki. The Akatsuki are criminal shinobi who have their own evil agenda. The series reveals his truth later, and he instantly becomes the most popular character in Naruto.
Arataka Reigen (Mob Psycho)
Reigen founded “Spirits and Such Consultation Office” and calls himself “The Greatest Psychic of the 21st Century.” But that is all just a big sham. Reigen is just another ordinary man who can’t see spirits, but he claims to be a psychic just for the money. He exploits others without hesitation.
But don’t get me wrong. Reigen is a good guy at heart, but he just does shady things with confidence. He is also Shigeo Kageyama’s (Mob) best friend. Although Reigen was just using Mob at first, he eventually grew to care about Mob. He even felt guilty for manipulating Mob. Reigen always advises Mob and listens to him.
I think we would all love to see Reigan’s childhood and how he grew up to be what he is. Therefore, he is a worthy side character who deserves his own show.
Viktor Nikiforov (Yuri On Ice)
Viktor Nikiforov is the main character’s fiancée in Yuri on Ice. He’s also a coach and a choreographer. Without a doubt, he is a “master of ice skating.” His birthplace is Russia, where he has excelled in figure skating since a young age. But we never got a chance to see his childhood and how he came to become the greatest ice skater in the whole world. His interesting backstory makes him a side character that deserves a show of his own.
Shanks (One Piece)
One Piece has many side characters that deserve their own show. But among them all, Shanks is the coolest, and he is shrouded in mystery. We only know that Shanks is one of the four Emperors who rule the New World, and he’s infamously known as “Red Hair.”
Shanks belonged to the Roger Pirates, the first gang to cross the Grand Line. After Gol D. Roger’s death, he broke away from the crew and formed his own.
Other than these facts, we have not seen much of his story. This is exactly why he’d be a perfect main character in his own anime.
Yami Sukehiro (Black Clover)
We can all admit that Yami is the most badass side character in Black Clover. He is the captain of the Black Bulls and is kind of like a mentor for Asta, the main protagonist of the series. It is mentioned in the anime that Yami came from the East, which is most likely Japan.
His adventure story of how he ended up in Clover Kingdom and what he did after that would make a perfect anime that could stand alone with Yami as the main character.
Ursula Callistis (Little Witch Academia)
Ursula is the legendary witch who was once insanely popular. People all over the world adored and admired her magical powers. However, she is now just a super ordinary side character who works as a teacher.
Given her legendary background, I think it is only normal that a side character like her deserves her own show that explains her life and why she decided to leave the life of a celebrity and become an ordinary person.
Levi Ackerman (Attack On Titan)
We already got a sneak peek into Levi’s life in the anime series, but that has only made me crave more. If there is any anime character that deserves his own show, it is Levi.
Levi is hands down the coolest character in the entire Attack on Titan series. He has had a really rough life, with misfortune after misfortune striking him down non-stop. But regardless of all those hardships, he became a strong man whom everybody respects. As the captain of his own squad, he also makes the wisest decisions without being emotionally hindered, which only made me want to respect him more.
Makarov Dreyar (Fairy Tail)
Makarov is one of the side characters from Fairy Tail. He is the master of the Fairy Tail guild and is one of the top 10 strongest wizards in the entire nation. We also know that he had a pretty rowdy life in his teenage years, but we never got to see that. We got a little peek into what his old team looked like and who his master was, but it never went past that.
It’d be really interesting to see his magic-filled adventures in his own show that tells the tale of his life before he became the guild master.
Netero (Hunter X Hunter)
Netero was the chairman of the hunter association and was obviously the strongest hunter there was. During his final fight, we got to see what he looked like when he was younger and how hard he trained.
Yes, his life might have been boring considering that he trained day and night for years, but there is a gap in the story that fails to explain his adventures that led him to become the Hunter Association’s chairman. Not to mention, his childhood and teenage years might be as interesting as Gon’s. We’d never know because we never got a chance to see that in its entirety.
