God of War is an action-adventure game developed by Santa Monica Studio and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE). Released worldwide on April 20, 2018.

The player controls Kratos in combo-based action and puzzle game elements. The gameplay is drastically different from previous titles, as it has been entirely revamped.

A big change is that Kratos no longer uses his trademark double-chain blades, the Blades of Chaos, as his primary weapon.

Instead, he uses the enchanted combat ax, dubbed the Leviathan Ax, which is mixed with the elemental power of ice. The ax can be hurled at opponents and magically summoned back to his side, like Thor’s hammer Mjölnir. Larger opponents have precision objectives, and tossing the ax at certain targets stuns the enemy.

The weapon can also be thrown at environmental objects to trigger a damaging explosion.

Assassin’s Creed Series

Assassin’s Creed is an open-world action-adventure stealth video game series released by Ubisoft and produced predominantly by the Ubisoft Montreal studio.

The Assassin’s Creed games are largely about the competition and confrontation between two ancient secret societies – the Assassins, who represent freedom, and the Knights Templar, who represents order.

Versions of these cultures have been in existence for decades, with the Assassins trying to stop the Templars from taking possession of the “Pieces of Eden,” objects capable of overwhelming free will to control individuals.

Assassin’s Creed games are based on one or more fictitious members of the Order of Assassins, whose memories are encountered by an in-game player in present society through the use of a device named Animus and its derivations.

Animus helps the individual to explore these memories transmitted by genetics. Through the context of the game, this offers a diegetic interface to the real-world player of the game, displaying their items such as health bars, a mini-map, and target goals as if viewed by the Animus.

Also, if the player causes the historic character to die or fails the mission, this is resolved as a “de-synchronization” of the genetic memory, causing the player to retry the mission. Animus also imparts extraordinary powers to modern-day character who allows them to see their goal in a crowd or other particular points of interest.

Doom Eternal is a first-person shooter game developed by id Software and released by Bethesda Softworks.

Players once again take on the part of the Doom Slayer, who fights the evil powers of Hell, from a first-person viewpoint. The game follows its predecessor’s focus on “push-forward” combat, urging the player to fiercely engage enemies to gain stamina, ammo, and armor.

The player has access to a variety of weapons, such as Combat Shotgun, Super Shotgun, Heavy Cannon, Rocket Launcher, Plasma Rifle, Chaingun, BFG 9000, and Ballista. Melee weapons such as a chainsaw, a “Crucible Blade” energy sword, and a retractable arm blade called a “Doomblade” can also be used.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is a Western-based action-adventure title. Played from a first or third-person perspective, the game is set in an open-world setting depicting a fictionalized version of the Western, Midwestern, and Southern United States in 1899, during the second half of the Wild West period and the twentieth century. The game features both single-player and online multiplayer elements released under Red Dead Online.

For much of the game, the player controls outlaws Arthur Morgan, a member of the Van der Linde gang, as he completes various missions—linear scenarios with fixed objectives—to advance through the story; from the game’s epilogue, the player controls John Marston, the playable protagonist of the game’s predecessor, Red Dead Redemption. Outside the quests, the player can freely navigate the immersive environment of the game.

The player can engage in battle with enemies using melee attacks, guns, jets, or explosives. Battle has been refined from the ancestor of the game, and the impressive new mechanics consist of dual-playing and the ability to use a bow. The player is given the option to swim as Arthur, but not as John—a nod to the previous title, where swimming led to instant death.

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is a third-person action-adventure title. Compared to FromSoftware’s own Souls series, the game features fewer role-playing elements, a lack of character formation and the ability to level up several stats, as well as no multiplayer elements.

It does, however, include upgrades to gear, a capability tree, and minimal customization capabilities. Instead of attacking the enemy’s health points, fighting in Sekiro focuses around using a katana to strike their stance and balance instead, which ultimately leads to an opening that makes for a single killing blow.

Marvel’s Spider-Man is a 2018 action-adventure game developed by Insomniac Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment.

Spider-Man is an open-world action-adventure game set in Manhattan in a fictionalized version of modern-day New York City. It is viewed from a third-person viewpoint displaying the player character and allowing the camera to swing freely around them.

The primary playable character is the superhero Spider-Man, who can explore the world by jumping, using his web-shooters to launch webs that allow him to swing through buildings, a sprint along walls, and automatically leap over obstacles.

The player will aim webs specifically to drag themselves to particular points. Physical objects are used to bind webs to swing, and the velocity and direction of swinging can be adjusted by releasing the web at specific points to gain height or travel faster. The game features an optional fast travel system that uses the subway system in New York City.

Portal 2 is a puzzle-platform game developed by Valve. It was released in April 2011 for Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.

Portal 2 is a first-person puzzle game. The player plays Chell’s part in a single-player game, as one of the two robots—Atlas and P-Body—in a cooperative campaign, or as a simple humanoid symbol in community-based puzzles. These three characters can be explored and interact with the environment.

Characters can survive minimal damage, but they will die after sustained injury. There is no punishment for slipping on a solid surface, but falling into bottomless holes or dangerous pools automatically destroys the character of the player.

When Chell dies in the single-player game, the game restarts from a recent checkpoint; in the cooperative game, the robot respawns shortly afterward without restarting the puzzle.

Lara Croft Go is a turn-based video puzzle game in the Tomb Raider series. Its main gameplay and control scheme is identical to that of its ancestor, Hitman Go.

Levels are made up of linked nodes and lines. The player controls the heroine of the series, Lara Croft. The player and the world take turns, one of which sits while the other runs. During the turn of the player, Croft pushes one unit between the related nodes in the specified direction.

As Croft rests at the node, enemies, and obstacles on the board simultaneously turn to drive one device at the same time.

While the Hitman Go levels are limited to the horizontal plane, Lara Croft Go incorporates vertical travel with stairs, cliff faces, and climbable terrain built into the level design. The game consists of five chapters and a total of forty stages

The Witness is a first-person video puzzle game. As an unidentified character, the player visits an island with various buildings and natural formations.

The island is geographically divided into eleven areas, organized around a mountain that is the primary target for the player. The regions are distinguished by differences in flora, and the puzzles within each region are similar to one another (e.g. their solutions may all involve symmetry).

There are yellow boxes and turrets all over the island. These can be triggered until the puzzles inside the area of the box have been resolved.

When triggered, the turrets appear to beam light at the top of the mountain, signaling that the game portion is complete. Several such turrets need to be triggered to unlock entry to the inside of the mountain and eventually achieve the final objective of the game. If all eleven turrets are triggered, additional puzzles can be found.

Titanfall 2 is a first-person shooter where players can control both the pilot and their Titans—mecha-style robots that are around seven to ten meters tall. The pilot has a wide range of skills that improve their fighting capability. All pilots have a jump kit that supports parking, double-jumping, and wall-running.

Pilots have more complex features exclusive to each ‘class’ that improve their offensive and defensive capabilities, such as a grappling hook for increased mobility or a holographic optical cloaking device. Pilots use their jump kits to run on walls, motions that can be chained together to move easily between positions.

The game incorporates a variety of new combat elements. This includes a motion device that helps players to roll on the terrain, a pulse blade (which is a throwing knife that exposes the position of every surrounding opponent), a holo-pilot (a holographic pilot that mimics the behavior of players to deceive enemies), and a grappling hook that can be used to sling players to a building or reel in an enemy that they connect to.

Pilots have a wide arsenal of arms and gadgets, such as rifles, submachine guns, pistols, and grenades to defeat their foes.

OverWatch

Overwatch is a multiplayer team-based game that is commonly played as a first-person shooter. The game features several different game modes, mostly structured around a squad-based battle between two opposing teams of six players each.

Players choose one of over two dozen pre-made hero characters from one of three class types: damage heroes who deal more damage to strike or defend control points, tank heroes who can withstand a substantial amount of damage, and help heroes who offer healing or other buffs to their teammates.

Each hero has a specific skill set, specifying his/her inner qualities such as health points and running speed, his/her main attacks, many active and passive abilities, and the ultimate strength that can only be used after he/she has been charged by causing harm to enemies and healing allies.

Players will adjust their heroes during the match, as the aim of Overwatch’s design was to promote diverse team combinations that would respond to the situation.

Apex Legends is an online multiplayer battle royal game featuring three-player teams using pre-made characters (called “Legends”), similar to hero shooters. Alternate modes have been added to allow single and two-player squads since the game’s release.

Each match usually consists of twenty teams of three-player squads. Players may join mates in a group, or they can be paired randomly with other players.

Before the match, each player on the squad can pick one of the 16 playable characters (as of Season 8) except that no character can be chosen by the squad more than once.

Similar to the Insurgency and the Day of Infamy, Insurgency: Sandstorm has a minimal HUD, a loss of a health strip, a count of bullets, or a minimap. The Insurgency series has a slow, tactical, realistic gameplay with moments of strength. Weapons are precise and incredibly dangerous, stressing coordination.

Like its predecessors, most of the Sandstorm game modes do not feature immediate spawning. Instead, after death, the players have to watch and wait for their squad to finish their goal of respawn.

Improvements from the Rebellion include updated graphics, fire support, night vision, the inclusion of a player advancement scheme, character customization, cosmetic unlocking, as well as wider maps, and drivable techniques.

Valorant

In main game mode, players are assigned either to the attacking or defensive side, with each team having five players on it. The base counter-terrorism units (CTUs) available for play are the American Hostage Rescue Team (referred to in-game as the FBI SWAT), the British SAS, the German GSG-9, the Russian Spetsnaz, and the French GIGN, along with four operators per squad divided between attackers and defenders (other units were later added through downloadable content, see below).

Players also have access to the “Recruit” operator who can select from a more diverse range of equipment at the cost of providing a special gadget or the option to modify their pistol.
