Sub-headline: Space is a premium nowadays.
Genshin Impact took the world by storm upon its release. With millions of downloads and created Genshin accounts, it quickly rose to the top of the charts. Its charming characters, intriguing plot, and entertaining combat mechanics charmed players worldwide.
Best of all, it’s free to play! Of course, it has micro-transactions for monetization, and if you want to collect every character. Still, you can enjoy the game without having to pay for anything.
Genshin Storage Space Consumption
The game is set in a vast open world, so it needs a chunk of space in mobile devices. The app requires about 20GB of free space as of the 3.1 update. This number can vary, depending on how many language packs (or screenshots) you have.
On PC, it’s a different matter. It takes up more space on desktops (64.8 GB) and PlayStation Consoles (around the same as PCs).
Genshin Impact System Requirements
On mobile, your device needs these specifications to run the app:
- Arm v8a 64 bits
- 8 GB of free space
- 3 GB RAM
- Android 7.0
However, for higher quality and better performance, you’ll need the following:
- Snapdragon 845 or Kirin 810 (or better)
- 4 GB RAM
- Android 8.1
It says 8GB for the initial download, but as mentioned, it takes up about 20 GB of space. If your device can have additional storage through memory cards, that would be an excellent way to extend capacity. Remember that the app’s size depends on how many/which voice packs you use. Also, while indirectly related, having many screenshots can clog up storage.
Having the recommended specs lets you enjoy the game with better performance and graphics. However, there should be a balance, as high-quality settings can make the device overheat and use up more battery. Playing on specs that are too low isn’t a pleasant experience, either.
Find a happy medium that lets your device run the game comfortably without overstressing it. Optimization settings depend on the device, so there isn’t a one-size fits all option. The game has a built-in indicator and will give a warning if you set things too high. It’s still the player’s prerogative to follow or ignore it.
Note that all devices will heat up when playing the game for too long. It would be best if you took it as a sign to stop and take a break. No game is worth losing health over.
How to Clear Up Space on Device
Three kinds of data can take up a large chunk of storage capacity: Pictures, Videos, and Apps. You can free up space by backing up the former two and deleting them from your device. Then you can search the latter for the ones you don’t use (or play) anymore and remove them.
If a Genshin Impact update says that you don’t have space, sometimes uninstalling it and then downloading it again can work. The logic of this action is that a fresh install won’t have the outdated data an updating app would.
As updates come and go, the bytes of information for past events would accumulate on the device, bloating its storage consumption. Deleting it deletes that obsolete info, and redownloading the app won’t install it again.
About Genshin Impact
Genshin Impact is a free-to-play action RPG game with microtransactions and a gacha feature. The Genshin Impact account holder can pick the name and gender of the Traveler (the player character) and explore the world of Teyvat. While customization is limited, it’s because they’re a person in their own right and are not a blank slate.
They’ll meet various characters in the world, from the god-like Archons to their enemies in the Abyss or the Fatui. Through the Wishing menu, they can recruit some of these characters. Since it is a gacha, it would require some luck, though there are guarantees (for 5-stars, at least).
Their search for their missing sibling will take them through the seven nations of Teyvat, each one with a different atmosphere and environment from the other.
The 4 released locations, Mondstadt, Liyue, Inazuma, and Sumeru, all have unique features. Mondstadt is full of plains, though a gorge and a mountain area exist. Dragonspine is also part of Mond, bordering Liyue on one side.
Liyue is full of craggy cliffs and mountains, befitting the land of Geo. One location of note is the Chasm, a mine built on the crater of an ancient meteorite. Inazuma is an archipelago, and each island has its own characteristics. Lastly, Sumeru has both a rainforest/jungle and a desert in its boundaries.
As for combat, many players love it because the mechanics allow for immense potential. With various elemental reactions, they love optimizing characters to bring out their highest damage outputs. It’s an intensely rewarding system that they can’t get enough of.
One thing you can count among its flaws is all the grinding you need to do. Genshin trading is also not possible outside of sharing ores and giving away/stealing other resources. That makes farming the only way.
There are several things to progress that make characters stronger.
- Character level and ascension
- Weapon enhancement
- Talent level
- Artifacts
Each one needs specific materials, though there are some overlaps. Still, farming many things to optimize a single character will take a chunk of your time. Beating the Spiral Abyss (the ‘endgame’) requires at least 8 adequately built units.
Have fun playing Genshin Impact!
