If you are a gamer, you must know about the NVIDIA Control Panel. And the importance of the NVIDIA Control Panel, you can squeeze more performance by changing some Nvidia Control Panel Setting by configuring some settings you can make the game as you wish to have and improve the game experience and performance. You can also optimize Windows 10 for gaming.

The NVIDIA Control Panel comes with many important settings such as Anti-aliasing, Anisotropic filtering, NVIDIA Low Latency Mode, and many more.

These settings help improve the gaming experience when playing the game. So, some gamers want to know how to optimize NVIDIA Control Panel settings to improve the game experience.

But, in this guide, I only focused on important settings that How to Optimize the NVidia Control Panel for GAMING & Performance. If you are AMD graphic cards, then you need to read our amd GPU optimize guide.

Best Setting For Nvidia Control Panel

1. Update Your GPU Driver

Updating your GPU driver can help you to get new features and performance boost and many major updates.

Here you can download Nvidia GeForce driver: https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/drivers/

2. Adjust image settings with preview

To boost the performance of your graphics card, right-click on your desktop and open your Nvidia Control Panel.

In the left frame, click “Adjust image settings with preview” then click “Use the advanced 3D image settings” then “Take me there.”

to set the best Control Panel Settings for gaming, the first thing you need to change the image settings preview, which is meant to give a simplistic means to balance visual quality with a single slider labeled ‘Use my preference emphasizing’.

And slide towards the performance, to take full advantage of your GPU.

For advanced settings, you can check the box named: Use the advanced 3D image settings. These advanced settings will give numerous new settings and features that your game does not give. Therefore, it will make your gaming experience even better.

Manage 3D settings

Next, go to ‘Manage 3D settings’ in the side panel to open the 3D Settings box. This is where you’ll be making most of your graphical changes.
Most of the settings under ‘Global Settings’ are going to improve your performance.

3. Image Scaling

This might give you the biggest performance boost, but first understand what image scaling is, Image scaling is a directional scaling algorithm with adaptive sharpening to detect, upscale, and sharpen the image simultaneously, making the image appear to be running at a higher resolution.

It means that your game will run at a lower resolution, but thanks to the image scaling technology, it will appear to be running at full resolution.

How to use it

  • Turn On
  • Sharpen: 30–50% (You should try it with yourself because some people prefer low sharpness and others prefer high sharpness; test it out for yourself.)
  • Enable Overlay Indicator (This will indicate whether or not the feature is active; for example, if the feature is active, the indicator will turn green; otherwise, it will turn blue.)
  • Go to your game and reduce the in-game resolution, but not too much.

4. Image Sharpening

Image Sharpening is a technology to render at a lower resolution for improved performance, and scale it to the monitor’s original resolution, using Image Sharpening to increase the clarity of the upscaled images.

This will especially help you to play the game at a lower resolution with increased clarity, especially if you have low-end GPUs.

Best Image Sharpening setting

  • Turn On GPU Scaling
  • Sharpen – 0.50
  • Ignore film grain – 0.17

NVIDIA first launched Image Sharpening as an NVIDIA Freestyle filter. Then they made it into the NVIDIA Control Panel, enabling it for all DirectX 9, 10, 11, and 12 games in the latest Game Ready drivers.

Image sharpness can be changed on a per-game basis, or used globally for all supported titles, with per-game settings overriding global settings.

As you can see in the image below how much image sharpening can improve your game quality.

5. Low Latency Mode

It’s a setting that can decrease latency by up to 33 % and uses a “just in time” system that submits “frames to be rendered just before the GPU needs them.

NVIDIA says that this low latency mode will work best in games that originally use your GPU and have framerates among 60 and 100 FPS. To turn it on, open up the NVIDIA Control Panel and select “Manage 3D Settings,” then look for the “Low Latency Mode” option.

6. Power Management Mode

If you are familiar with the NVIDIA Control panel then you probably know that By default, NVIDIA sets the power management mode of your GPU to “Optimal power”.

Changing these settings will change the core and memory clock speeds and voltage of your GPU, increasing them during times of load and reducing them when the need is low.

  • Power Management Mode – Prefer maximum performance

7. Texture filtering – Quality

Texture filtering deals with how a texture a 2D image (and many other data) is presented on a 3D model.

To improve performance without losing much or any quality, the game uses a lower-resolution texture called a mipmap for further objects.

  • Texture filtering – Quality: – High Performance

This setting defines amongst other things the level of Anisotropic and Trilinear texture filtering optimizations applied by the Forceware drivers. Generally, the High-Performance setting enables all optimizations, meaning slightly lower image quality but the highest level of performance.

8. Pre-rendered frames

Nvidia renews the pre-rendering system to keep up with AMD’s similar feature and improve gameplay.

They called it Pre-Rendered Frames, also known as Max Frames to Render Ahead. It controls the number of frames the CPU prepares in advance of being rendered by the GPU. The default value is 3.

The default value is 3 – higher values tend to result in smoother but more laggy gameplay, while lower values can help decrease mouse and keyboard lag.

  • Pre-rendered Frames – Set 1
